Assignment 1A - Me, Myself and I

So we gotten the next assignment, which is to come up with a drawing that helps to describe yourself, which also includes your name.

We couldn't use Typography - which from what I understand, is using letters with different fonts and sizes, to design. I first had to come up with ideas for what "ME" essentially was... As you can see from the small scribbles at the top of the scan below. I decided to incorporate what I felt I was into my designs. Also, I was improving the initial ideas I came up with 1st.

So now I had 4 rough ideas of how to go with the drawings. Time to resketch them bigger. For the 3rd and 4th designs, I know my drawing of bodies is quite bad... X_X I initially found the ideas, especially the 3rd one, to be very interesting. However my lack of art skills can be seen quite obviously. If it was possible for us to submit a photograph, instead of a sketch, I would go with the 3rd design.

O yeah, I decided to use "Ray" instead of "Rayner" in the sketches. Can you see the letters? I hope so... x_x

Out of these 4 sketches, I decided to use the 1st one as the basis for the roughs. I felt it was suitable since it showed that I was more scientifically inclined, instead of artistically... Also, it shows my personality in it, with a messy, cluttered look to the background and the music player to the side.
This is the 1st rough I came up with, a slight copy of the original sketch. The perspective of the objects in the picture are quite off-marked... Especially the compass and the pencil on the right. I should take more time in getting my sizing correct. That weird curvy object below the CD player is a flexi-rule, used to help draw curves in graphs. This is the other design I came up with. Again, I think it's appropriate since I think it kind of shows the workspace I have at times. (No, My workspace is NOT as cluttered as the 1st design. Haha.) The weird triangular object on the right is actually a tri-coloured highlighter that I had in the past, which was quite fun to use. Again, I don't like the sizing of the objects relative to each other. Still can't get it right.

The 2 below are the slightly coloured versions of the designs. I don't know how to colour as well as those I see online. Anyone got any tips to improve?

Class Assignment A - Creative Machine

So for our 1st class assignment, we had to design a creative machine that would increase our creativity by 100 times.

After 10 minutes, I was still puzzled as to what does a creative machine looks like in the first place. It was then that I had an idea! Instead of a machine that produces ideas when you look at it, what if I created a machine that would remind me about where ideas come from? That's how I came up with this design.

The basic idea behind this design is...
  • Machine that eats up images, surroundings and feelings
  • Blends them together to create something new
  • Dumps it into the head to generate new ideas
In a more wordy description, I was trying to come up with a design that shows a machine devouring various images and symbols and blending it together. I wanted to emphasize that ideas came from all around us, from the weather, signs or even music! Thus, this machine would collect these potential ideas and blend them together before dumping it into your brain. Also, if you noticed, there is no [ON/OFF] switch on this machine which helps to emphasize that we should always be "devouring" our surroundings to generate new ideas.

The above sketch was done in the class. Back at home, I decided to redraw the machine to clean it up abit. Here's a neater version.Urgh... I feel embarrassed about the picture. Haha.

Well... That's the first of the class assignments. It is pretty interesting and challenging to me. I certainly hope I get better at these over the module. -_-|||

Intro-post

Hello! Welcome to my blog for the NM2208 module in the special term. Hopefully this blog will be interesting for all the viewers. =D

Some small notes about me:
I personally think I'm not a very artistic person so this module will be somewhat of a challenge to me. (Which I hope to overcome..) I tend to think of things in a very practical way and thus might have some hard times in visualising objects or scenes.
I do like working on art but I have a slight perfectionist streak in me (Or maybe it's just negativity? Heh.) so I have a hard time accepting that my art if acceptable (If it even is... -_-||| ) Hopefully as this module progresses I'll learn to accept my artwork and also learn the on ways to improve.

K, that's all for the 1st post. I'll upload the Class assignment soon.
